Australian Foreign Aid

Australia currently provides official development assistance at a rate of 0.37 of gross national income1 (that is, 37c out of every $100 earned in the economy). This is around half of the amount (0.7% of GNI) that a number of nations agreed, with the UN to set as a target for aid.

Australia's foreign aid budget has been slashed in the 2014-15 budget. And today, Julie Bishop is expected to announce further sweeping changes to our aid program.

The budget cuts and changes will see our proportion of GNI spent on aid further diminished. This is a problem for our world and our nation.
