Trust and votes

Some interesting numbers out of this week's Essential polling on trust in state governments.

The graph below shows how each of the three eastern states rated their own government's in terms of trustworthiness. Queensland is clearly the loser.

What is interesting is how much of an impact the sense of trust influences voting behaviour. The graph below shows the proportion of people who trust their respective state governments, compared with the governing party's two party preferred result in recent polls.

Queensland's latest two party preferred result is likely a bit of an outlier, as it is the first in a long time since Labor has led. The lack of trust Queenslanders place in their government and their continued support for them in votin intention is perplexing. Is it just that they have even less trust for Labor?
